    WELCOME!

Welcome to Ennis Del Mar's Brokeback Roundup 2008!  Gather in the Big Horn Mountains of north central Wyoming, in the heart of Annie Proulx country where Brokeback Mountain is set.  This will be a full week of relaxation and slow-paced exploration of some of the truly magnificent sights of the American West.  Long daylight hours, excellent weather, and a full week to enjoy Wyoming promise to make this a reunion you will never forget!

Brokeback BBQ 2007 and Auntie's inaugural BBM Backyard BBQ back in 2006 were huge successes; almost 100 fans from around the world came to each event for good food & fun times in celebration of the 2005 film by Ang Lee and short story by E. Annie Proulx.

TRAVEL TIPS

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!
Starting with your arrival in Denver, drink PLENTY of water-- at least 32oz/1 liter more per day than you normally do.  We will be spending the majority of our time around 8000' elevation, 1½ miles high!  Altitude sickness (exhaustion, dizziness, nausea), while not usually life-threatening, can affect even healthy people, causing lethargy and fatigue after little effort.  The best way to avoid it is to drink plenty of H2O.  Colorado tap water is fine.

Sunburn
The sun, nearing solstice, is very high and intense in early June.  Wyoming's very clear, thin air and high altitude will make UV exposure HIGH to EXTREME, so it is IMPERATIVE that you thoroughly cover exposed skin with SPF 30 or higher when the weather is nice.  We will not take pity on sunburnt victims--and we will have them.  Will it be YOU?

Alcohol
Alcohol is dehydrating.  This, combined with Wyoming's arid climate and high altitude (8000') will greatly increase your vulnerability and risk of hypoxia (altitude sicknesses).  Brokeback Roundup 2008 is NOT A PARTY.  DO NOT plan to come with the intention of over-drinking, or you may be escorted off the lodging grounds or out of Forest Service properties!  Just pace yourself and don't drink & ride horseback.

Bring
• Comfortable shoes!
• Refillable water bottles
• Sunscreen (SPF 30+)
• Jackets (Nights are chilly!)
• Hat (Cowboy hats preferred!)
• Camera!

Driving in the mountains
• If you can, rent a car that handles well.  Be careful for sharp turns and steep dropoffs.  Stick-shift is good.  (So is a sunroof!)
• Watch out for elk, deer, antelope, cattle and sheep on the road, particularly in open range areas.
• Do not speed.  The state police patrol Wyoming's highways tightly.  If someone tailgates you, pull over and let them pass.
• The mountains get MUCH cooler the higher you go, so bring a jacket or extra layers, even if it's hot in the valleys.
